Michele Bachmann’s Call to Arms

In case you haven't heard - those idiots in D.C. are going to try and ram this piece of shit so-called "health reform" bill down the throats of the American people this coming Friday (11/6/09).  The polls show that more than 55% of the public oppose this bill while only 35% approve - (as a side note - what's up with that other 10% - don't they even give a shit or what?).

As a result, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has put out a call to arms - so to speak - asking for as many people as possibly can to show up at the steps of the Capitol Building on Thursday 11/5/09.

This is from her website:

WHAT:            Health Care “House Call” on Washington Press Conference

WHO:              Republican Members of Congress
Americans concerned about our health care future
Other Guests - TBA

WHEN:            Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 12:00-1

WHERE:          East Front Steps of the U.S. Capitol (House Side)

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann released the following statement as the House of Representatives approaches a vote on the Democrats’ health care reform proposal:

“The American people spoke loud and clear at town hall meetings all across the country throughout August.  But, it would appear that Congress didn’t hear a word they had to say.  The Democrats’ latest health care proposal unveiled late last week may be packaged a little differently, but it’s the same old bad bill as before.

“This bill is a trillion-dollar, budget-busting, government takeover of our health care system.  It will put bureaucrats between people and their health care.  It will lead to rationed care, hurting the most vulnerable amongst us first.  It will break the bank, leaving our children to pay the bill with diminished freedoms and dwindling prosperity.

“The American people need to stand up again and make sure that Congress hears them this time.  Speaker Pelosi is putting her bill on fast track to a vote – and it remains to be seen if the House will even get a chance to vote on the commonsense Republican alternatives.  The people need to make a House Call on Washington this week and tell their Representatives to vote no to a government take-over of one-fifth of our economy.  This is gangster government at its worst.

“I urge all Americans to come to Washington this Thursday.  Come and meet up with your Representative and tell them that you want to control your health care.”

If you can make it - please be there.  As an added bonus, Mark Levin will be joining her. The idea is that once the rally is over, everyone who has shown up is to go and visit their representative face-to-face and let them know we don't want this socialist piece of shit bill foisted upon Americans.  Apparently, our representatives forgot what it means to be true blue American.  They would rather we all be a friendly shade of pinko socialists.

If you can't be there - please take the time out AGAIN to call your representatives and let them know that if they vote for it - you will be voting their ass out of office the next time they come up for re-election.

The Washington Postrevealed a shocking quote from Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD). After watching press coverage of town hall meetings across the nation where Americans have come out against the president and some in Congress who desire a more robust government involvement in health care, and after facing 1,000 or more of his own constituents generally expressing

Synopsis: A collection of the words that Robert Kennedy used to move others, and the words of others that moved Robert Kennedy. My Take: Compiled by RFK’s ninth child (!), “ Make Gentle The Life of This World ” is a delicious combination of extracts from Robert Kennedy’s own speeches and a selection of passages from a daybook collaboratively compiled by both JFK and RFK from their vociferous personal reading.

It's good to contemplate the wise sayings of those who helped form this nation: Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die . ~Dwight D. Eisenhower It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you .

Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be. ~ James Baldwin Freedom is that instant between when someone tells you to do something and when you decide how to respond. ~ Jeffrey Borenstein The trouble with free elections is, you never know who is going to win. ~ Leonid Brezhnev None who have always been free can understand the terrible fascinating power of the hope of freedom to those who are not free.

A lifetime ago, I took a couple of courses in American Civ from William Goetzman; Amazon nudged that memory by noting his Beyond the Revolution: A History of American Thought from Paine to Pragmatism had come out. Although not getting much read lately, I ordered it. Yesterday, A&L linked to a discussion in The Chronicle of Higher Education (which supports A&L). Carlin Romano’s “Obama, Philosopher in Chief” uses Goetzmann as foil.

As you do, here are some powerful quotes as you celebrate: Do not let anyone claim tribute of American patriotism if they even attempt to remove religion from politics." - George Washington's Farewell Address to Nation "America was established not to create wealth but to realize a vision, to realize an ideal - to discover and maintain liberty among men." -Woodrow Wilson "It

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas Jefferson “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.” – Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria, Criminologist in 1764.
