Health Care “Reform” and “Willful self-deception”

Robert Samuelson in The Washington Post (h/t Karl Rove) hits health care "reform" as advocated by the Democratic Party hard:

There is an air of absurdity to what is mistakenly called "health-care reform." Everyone knows that the United States faces massive governmental budget deficits as far as calculators can project, driven heavily by an aging population and uncontrolled health costs. As we recover slowly from a devastating recession, it's widely agreed that, though deficits should not be cut abruptly (lest the economy resume its slump), a prudent society would embark on long-term policies to control health costs, reduce government spending and curb massive future deficits. The administration estimates these at $9 trillion from 2010 to 2019. The president and all his top economic advisers proclaim the same cautionary message.

So what do they do? Just the opposite. Their far-reaching overhaul of the health-care system -- which Congress is halfway toward enacting -- would almost certainly make matters worse. It would create new, open-ended medical entitlements that threaten higher deficits and would do little to suppress surging health costs. The disconnect between what President Obama says and what he's doing is so glaring that most people could not abide it. The president, his advisers and allies have no trouble. But reconciling blatantly contradictory objectives requires them to engage in willful self-deception, public dishonesty, or both.

There's more at the link - it deserves to be read. It looks like many Democrats are actually believing the self-serving arguments they advance as the truth; it's not hard to see how this happens, it happens to all of us everyday in other ways. One starts by distorting one issue ever so slightly, making other distortions in other issues to compensate, and starts believing the whole system one has set up as exactly. After all, when one believes one is entirely just - shouldn't the richest country in the history of the world procure health care for as many as possible - mere mortal matters like budgets and numbers that add-up tend to be thought irrelevant.

Michele Bachmann’s Call to Arms

In case you haven't heard - those idiots in D.C. are going to try and ram this piece of shit so-called "health reform" bill down the throats of the American people this coming Friday (11/6/09).  The polls show that more than 55% of the public oppose this bill while only 35% approve - (as a side note - what's up with that other 10% - don't they even give a shit or what?).

As a result, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has put out a call to arms - so to speak - asking for as many people as possibly can to show up at the steps of the Capitol Building on Thursday 11/5/09.

This is from her website:

WHAT:            Health Care “House Call” on Washington Press Conference

WHO:              Republican Members of Congress
Americans concerned about our health care future
Other Guests - TBA

WHEN:            Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 12:00-1

WHERE:          East Front Steps of the U.S. Capitol (House Side)

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann released the following statement as the House of Representatives approaches a vote on the Democrats’ health care reform proposal:

“The American people spoke loud and clear at town hall meetings all across the country throughout August.  But, it would appear that Congress didn’t hear a word they had to say.  The Democrats’ latest health care proposal unveiled late last week may be packaged a little differently, but it’s the same old bad bill as before.

“This bill is a trillion-dollar, budget-busting, government takeover of our health care system.  It will put bureaucrats between people and their health care.  It will lead to rationed care, hurting the most vulnerable amongst us first.  It will break the bank, leaving our children to pay the bill with diminished freedoms and dwindling prosperity.

“The American people need to stand up again and make sure that Congress hears them this time.  Speaker Pelosi is putting her bill on fast track to a vote – and it remains to be seen if the House will even get a chance to vote on the commonsense Republican alternatives.  The people need to make a House Call on Washington this week and tell their Representatives to vote no to a government take-over of one-fifth of our economy.  This is gangster government at its worst.

“I urge all Americans to come to Washington this Thursday.  Come and meet up with your Representative and tell them that you want to control your health care.”

If you can make it - please be there.  As an added bonus, Mark Levin will be joining her. The idea is that once the rally is over, everyone who has shown up is to go and visit their representative face-to-face and let them know we don't want this socialist piece of shit bill foisted upon Americans.  Apparently, our representatives forgot what it means to be true blue American.  They would rather we all be a friendly shade of pinko socialists.

If you can't be there - please take the time out AGAIN to call your representatives and let them know that if they vote for it - you will be voting their ass out of office the next time they come up for re-election.
