Yemen airstrike that left at least 30 Al Qaeda fighters dead
Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim imam linked to the suspected Fort Hood gunman, is said to have been killed in a Yemen airstrike that left at least 30 other Al Qaeda fighters dead, a source told Reuters on Thursday.
Yemen's Supreme Security Committee said airstrikes in the eastern Shabwa province targeted an Al Qaeda leadership meeting held to organize terror attacks, killing senior leaders in the organization.
"Anwar al-Awlaki is suspected to be dead [in the air raid]," Reuters quoted an unnamed Yemeni official as saying.

Iraq deployed troops Saturday to monitor an oil well seized by Iranian forces along the disputed border between the two countries, an Iraqi official said, as Baghdad demanded once again that Iran withdraw.
The diplomatic standoff began late Thursday, when Iranian forces reportedly crossed into Iraq and seized the well, which sits just over the border in the southern Maysan province. It was a dramatic display of the occasionally tense relations between the wary neighbors. ![]()

Iraqi troops escorted workers back to a remote oil well Sunday after Iranian forces withdrew as a standoff on the two countries' disputed border appeared to wane.
Two Iraqi government officials and an employee at the site said about 11 oil workers returned to well No. 4 at the al-Fakkah oil field, seized by Iranian forces on Thursday. Al-Fakkah is one of the largest oil fields in Iraq, and is located in the southern province of Maysan.

The senior terrorist operative killed in a drone strike Thursday in Pakistan was a top Al Qaeda planner involved in plotting attacks around the world, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official told Fox News.
The official identified the operative as Saleh al-Somali, the network's external operations chief for plots outside Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying there are “strong indications” al-Somali died. ![]()

A high-ranking Al Qaeda figure reportedly was killed Thursday in a U.S. drone aircraft attack in north Pakistan.
The attack, first reported by NBC News, was officially denied by Pakistani officials, though sources told Fox News that neither Usama bin Laden or Ayman al-Zawahiri were among those killed.
Pakistani media report six militants were killed in the attack, including four foreign fighters, a classification in the tribal areas that typically refers to Al Qaeda. ![]()
