New leader of the Tehreik-e-Taliban
The new leader of the Tehreik-e-Taliban has said he will take over the war against the West which was unfinished by his predecessor.
The head of the Taliban in Pakistan, Hakimullah Mehsud, issued his threats in a rare interview obtained by Sky News.
The Pakistani authorities had said Hakimullah had been killed in a gun battle between rival Taliban factions fighting over who should be the group's leader.
Counterterrorism targeting leadership
Recent targeted attacks that killed militants in Somalia, Indonesia and Pakistan have chipped away at Al Qaeda’s power base, sapping the terror network of key leaders and experienced operatives who train recruits and wage attacks.
Intelligence officials said Friday that the military strikes have reduced Al Qaeda’s core leadership to only a handful of men and diminished its ability to train fighters. This, they said, has forced Al Qaeda to turn to its global affiliates for survival.
The killings of Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan in Somalia, Noordin Muhammed Top in Indonesia and Baitullah Mehsud in Pakistan — all in recent weeks — have been the latest blow.

'Iran arms ship bound for Gaza downed near Sudan'
An Iranian vessel laden with weapons bound for the Gaza Strip was torpedoed off the coast of Sudan last week, allegedly by Israeli or American forces operating in the area, the Egyptian newspaper El-Aosboa reported on Sunday.
Anonymous sources in Khartoum told the newspaper that an unidentified warship bombed the Iranian vessel as it prepared to dock on Sudan before transferring its load for shipment to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
These sources said they suspects U.S. or Israeli involvement in the attack, but neither Washington nor Jerusalem have released a statement yet on the matter.
The Israel Air Force, meanwhile, is suspected of attacking a convoy of Iranian arms that passed through Sudan en route to Gaza in January, according to reports released in March.
