The Irate Nation Est. 2001

As the health care debate rolls along what keeps me amazed is all the posturing and claiming the supporters of Universal Obamacare are stating that Healthcare is a right and should be available to all!! And I continue to ask why? Why is it a right? What makes it a right? If it is a right then: If people have a right to health care, then it stands to reason that others are required to provide it. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a right if people weren’t guaranteed it.

I originally wanted to write this article as a response to someone who I felt had slighted me by calling me a Liberal, over the course of study and writing of this article I realized that I am indeed a Liberal ! For many the word liberal holds different meanings, for instance if one is a “liberal” it means they may be more socially “conscience” or possibly environmentally conscience; for others being a “liberal” could mean that they are those “damn” hippy, tree hugging, flower freaks! As someone steeped in a tradition of “conservatism” and having over time realized that many of my views were based in bigotry and hate being called a “liberal” elicits multiple instantaneous reactions.
